Marmalade by Magdalena Sokolowska

I began designing dresses seven years ago when I opened a small boutique under the same name. It was located in Kensington Market, Toronto and my partner and I divided the space between vintage collectables and my own first run of ladies a-line, very mod influenced dresses.  My machine, patterns and fabrics were behind the compromised curtain divider that also separated my living quarters from my retail space. The Marmalade sign was hung, the window set with my Judy and within no time, I received the nod of approval from those seeking perhaps a more daring and adventurous number for their wardrobes. The continuation of influence from an era two decades before my own years is prominent as you will see in my Marmalade collections. Fun is perhaps the most important characteristic of my designs and maintains its prominence from initial sketch to dress completion.

Marmalade clothing continues to attract customers from around the globe and is available at a growing array of boutiques. Marmalade has also been featured on the BBC, and provided wardrobe for German, Canadian and Scandinavian television networks, HBO premiers and appeared in many print publications and most recently; the stage version of Quadrophenia has featured Marmalade cuts.

2009 will also see the launch of my more versatile collection under my own name Magdalena Sokolowska. I look forward to introducing this new chapter and maintain giving my all to making my customer’s look and feel terrific.

With sincere thanks for support,

Magdalena
